typically the server will just look at the ID. i suppose at some high end places or places that have a bar section of the restaurant might scan, but either way if your ID doesn’t scan I wouldn’t use it anywhere because it’s really not worth the risk

high end places are usually more lenient from my experience

Restaurants tend to just take a quick glance at the birthdate. Make sure you look the part as well... some managers will call you out if they think you look a little young.

in my experience, the higher-class, the less they care. higher end steakhouses and such price themselves out of the typical late-teen’s budget.. but if you’ve got the cash, go for it. and no, i’ve never seen a restaurant scan an ID. one place i served at would use BCS or barzapp if we really thought it was fake, but we weren’t allowed to make the final decision on that. it was usually more a determination of how old they actually looked/how they were acting than whatever was on the card

I went to the CUT in Vegas, and it was with family friends and some of them had really bad IDs, the waiter did not even ID us when we ordered 2 bottles. It is true that higher end places usually don't care as they don't expect teens to be dropping that kind of dough
