is it best to buy holo lam sheets, or holo ribbons when using a card printer? ( self )

If it's possible to buy holograms pre printed onto a ribbon, is that better? will it create a more realistic ID? all DL's I've seen have it obvious that the hologram is a laminate overlay that is stuck on and its size isn't flush with the card itself

it's not flush with the card because a real overlay isn't fluch with the card either.
