Driver License Templates and barcode gen ( self )

I'm new to this but I'm looking to purchase templates preferably on the cheaper side but still good for coinbases and stuff like that. I'm also wondering what barcode software should I get? I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with it but I found this one website that lets you generate a barcode for any state for $6 and they can pass Intellicheck https://pdf417.cc/

not sure about where to get templates, i saw a high rated site on here selling templates for a few hundred $ (i think idviking).

after seeing this post last night i got curious and started researching drivers license barcodes.

the information about barcodes is completely public and can be found in the 2020 AAMVA DL/ID card design standard (https://www.aamva.org/DL-ID-Card-Design-Standard/)

i haven't seen any publicly released barcode generators that pass ID scanner apps, but if you make your barcode following those guidelines it will pass.

you can use a pdf417 scanner to scan your actual drivers license to see an example of how the data looks or mess with some of the values to see what makes it stop passing on an id scanner app etc

keep in mind some scanners you can have the data in the barcode completely correct but if the barcode is not the right size (i think this is based on error correction level? but im not sure i have just started learning about this last night) it will not pass the app.

as for actually encoding a barcode yourself, there are many websites that can do it for you for free (and theres packages for python for this that i was using last night) you just have to get the raw data right (and ec level maybe).

as for scanner apps i was using to test if my barcodes were working, (on ios) i've tried "ID Scanner •" by Adappt LLC on the app store. it has a blue icon. this scanner will let you know if your raw data is right. Show-Me-ID seems to be harder to get right and i think you just need the correct data and correct error correction level and maybe size(?).

Not that easy actually, need to learn how to code. Won't work in any generator you put the data in no matter how correct your data is.
