Happy 2021 everybody! Going to start the year off with a couple reviews. First one is going to be the idtop new Maine ID. Overall a pretty nice looking ID, but some would call a downgrade from the old design. Overall, idtop was responsive and helpful getting this ID to me in about 2 weeks time. Looks alright, scans, all that. With that said, here's my review.
Hologram Lot of fish and trees. The holograms look pretty good on this ID and do a good job not sticking out too much. The green in the holograms do a very nice job catching the light. Really simple stuff but idtop did a nice job with the colors and designs.
Template So before I get into the details of the template there's one thing to mention that has been an issue on a couple of idtop's IDs...the edges tend to come out kind of choppy. Kind of takes away from a professional job and makes the ID seem like it was cut improperly. Hope to see less of that in the future. Moving on, the template design holds up pretty well. I think the Real ID star seems like it could have been a little darker as it seems to almost blend in with the background, but it's fine. The colors might be a little too saturated, but it's hard to tell from pictures I've seen. Microprint is around the edges of a lot of details, I think there's even a little bit inside the bird on the ID lol. Some of the details seem to kind of run off the ID, which is odd, but it's not too noticeable or anything. Laser perforation looks pretty clean. Idtop pays attentions to details, but they have a couple areas they can improve on here.
UV The UV on this ID is all bright green. Since they took the moose off of the ID, they kept it in the UV print lol. Overall looks clean and crisp, but the moose is pretty visible even onto the back of the ID. One detail worth mentioning is that the tree holograms seem to catch the UV light as well which is odd. The fish holograms don't have this issue, so figured I should point that out.
PS and Sig As per usual with ID top, photo looks fine, but I wish my signature was a little bit bigger. No major complaints here
Conclusion Not the worst ID by any means at all, but could definitely use some improvement primarily with the template itself. Still, Maine is a good state to consider for New England use. Idtop does fine in terms of capturing the details, but issues such as the choppy edges could definitely be a problem at some places. Hope to see some better quality control in the future as this is a pretty nice ID!
