I was in the same boat when I did that trip! We made a few cool stops along the way—Louisburg Cider Mill was a favorite for fresh cider and donuts, and we also hit the Fort Scott National Historic Site for a quick history lesson. Bartlesville, OK, was another good stop with some quirky museums. Check out this kansas city to tulsa road trip itinerary for some great suggestions, too. It made our trip way more fun!

I’ve done that route a couple of times, and I think one of the best stops is Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. It’s not the kind of place you’d expect to find in the middle of Kansas, but it’s stunning. If you’re looking for something unique, that’s the spot. It’s quiet and gives you a chance to enjoy nature without the usual crowds. I found it a great way to break up the drive, especially if you’re looking for a relaxing stop that’s a bit off the grid.
